The White House said that Biden's statement is his personal opinion and reflects his vision of the situation in Ukraine *
Former US President Donald Trump called what is happening in Ukraine a genocide. He stated this in an interview with Fox News.
First, the channel's host suggested that Trump discuss the 41-year record inflation in the United States. In response, the ex-president said that the policies of the current US President Joe Biden led to such a high level of inflation. According to Trump, during his tenure as president, “the highest economy in the history of the world” was created, but after Biden took office, “everything went wrong.”
“It was all a self-inflicted wound, from inflation to loss of energy independence. It's so sad to watch, and now add to that what is happening in Ukraine. This is genocide— what is happening in Ukraine. People have never seen anything like it before,— Trump said.
The day before, US President Joe Biden also called the situation in Ukraine a genocide. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki later explained that Biden's words are his personal opinion and reflect his vision of the situation in Ukraine. She added that the US president's statement cannot harm the prospects for peace talks and will not affect the US position on resolving the situation.
The Kremlin called Biden's words unacceptable. “We categorically disagree that such a distortion of the situation is considered unacceptable,” — said the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
At the same time, French leader Emmanuel Macron did not call the situation in Ukraine a genocide. “I would be careful with the terms, it makes sense. Ukrainian and Russian peoples— fraternal peoples»,— he said. Macron added that he does not want to lose the opportunity to discuss a truce, and does not believe that “verbal escalation will help this.”
